A ring of blue glass hamsas around a central eye, beaded and strung on jute, nine inches long by three and a half wide. Built for a wall or a door frame rather than a pocket.
The repetition is the point. A single hamsa is a statement; a circle of them is a boundary, and hanging one at a threshold is the same instinct behind a horseshoe over a barn door or a sprig of rowan over a byre. You mark the edge of the space and then you stop worrying about it.
Hamsa is simply the word for five, in Hebrew and Arabic both. It is the Hand of Fatima in Islamic use and the Hand of Miriam in Jewish use, and the shape is older than either. Fingers up wards, fingers down blesses, and a circle of them does both at once because some of them are always pointing each way.
