Description
Cat's Claw is a vine from the Amazon, and it is worked with for boundary setting, cord cutting and clear sight. Its place in ritual is as a guard: it holds the edge of the energy field while the practitioner goes looking, which is what makes it useful in shadow work and divination rather than only in warding.
Plant Context
The vine climbs by way of curved thorns that hook into whatever it passes, and the name comes from that shape. What hooks can also unhook, which is why it is reached for when something needs catching hold of or breaking loose rather than simply being kept out.
In the Hand
Coarse shredded bark, pale red-brown and fibrous, splintering along the grain. Almost no scent cold; on charcoal it turns dry and woody with a faint sourness underneath.
Work with it
Burn a pinch in a loose incense blend to clear heavy air before divination or trance work. Add it to spell jars and charm bags for protection, staying power, or cutting a cord you are done carrying. In dreamwork and shadow ritual it holds the boundary while you go further in. It pairs naturally with obsidian or tiger's eye for warding and uncrossing.
