Description

A shaker made in Bali from bamboo, rattan and dried seeds, with hand-painted balls on bamboo sticks. The sound is a dry seed rattle rather than the sharper crack of a plastic maraca, and it carries less far, which is usually what you want indoors.

A rattle is one of the oldest ritual instruments there is and the least demanding to use. Shake it to open a space, to hold a rhythm while other people do the singing, or simply because a repeated sound gives a wandering mind somewhere to sit.

Good to Know

Roughly 9 by 26 cm. Bamboo, rattan and organic seed, hand-painted, so the colors vary. Keep it dry; damp seed goes quiet.
