Description

A dark season simmer blend: spearmint, Earl Grey tea, hibiscus, clove, cinnamon, star anise, calendula, putka pods and blood orange slices. May also include grapefruit or regular orange.

A simmer pot is the oldest way to change the feeling of a room, and it is a ritual as much as a smell. You put the pot on, you top it up through the afternoon, and the house slowly becomes somewhere you did something deliberate. That is different from spraying a scent and getting on with your day.

The aroma is subtle and it is meant to be. There are no added dyes or fragrance oils in this, so it will not fill a house the way a synthetic simmer blend does. If you want a scent you can smell from the next room, this is not that product.

How to Use It

Add the dry ingredients to two or three cups of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Keep an eye on the water and top it up as it cooks down; a dry pan is how simmer pots go wrong. Let it run while you set an altar, clean the house before the holiday, or sit with the season.

Try It With

Cinnamon Bark, Cloves and Star Anise if you want to build your own, and Calendula to bring the dead into it. More in Samhain.

Important Notes

This is a ritual simmer blend, not a tea and not food. It is made to go in a pan of water on the stove, not in a cup. Putka pods in particular are a decorative botanical and are not edible. Keep the pan out of reach of children and pets, and never leave it on a hot stove unattended.
Sold for its traditional folkloric associations only.
