Sweet Marjoram Oil | Comfort, Peace & Grief

Warm, herbaceous and slightly sweet, with a soft woody edge. Comforting in a way its close relative oregano is not at all.

What It Is
Origanum majorana, steam distilled from the leaf. The same genus as oregano and chemically very different: marjoram is dominated by gentle alcohols rather than by the harsh phenols of its cousin.

In the Craft
The Greeks planted marjoram on graves, believing that if it grew there the dead were at peace. Aphrodite was said to have created it. It carries a Venus correspondence and is worked for comfort, for peace in a household, and for grief that needs softening rather than confronting.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a candle for grief work or for peace in a home.
• Diffuse in a house where there has been tension or loss.
• Dilute and wear during mourning.
• Blend with lavender for the gentlest combination we stock.
