Rosemary Oil | Memory, Focus & Purification
Description
Sharp, herbaceous and camphorous, with a clean pine edge. Bracing rather than comfortable.
What It Is
Salvia rosmarinus, steam distilled from the leaf. Chemotypes matter with rosemary: this is the 1,8-cineole type, the brightest and most camphorous of the three.
In the Craft
Rosemary was burned in sickrooms and hospitals through European plague years and laid on tombs at Roman funerals, which is where the association with remembrance comes from. It is worked for memory, for study, for purification and for protection against ill-wishing.
How to Work With It
- Diffuse before study, a reading, or anything requiring recall.
- Anoint a candle for protection or for clearing a stale room.
- Add to a floor wash after illness or a long shut-in stretch.
- Anoint an offering or photograph when remembering someone.
Blends well with: lemon, peppermint, cedarwood, frankincense, lavender
Certified Organic. USDA Certified Organic, which means no GMOs, no synthetic fertilizers, and soil free of prohibited substances. Buying certified organic also supports the biodiversity of the land it was grown on.
Safety. For external use only. Essential oils are highly concentrated: always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact and patch test first. Never take internally. Keep away from children and pets. Ask a qualified practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, or managing a medical condition. Avoid around children under ten and anyone with a seizure history. High 1,8-cineole oils are not for small children's spaces.
Why We Carry It
Rosemary is the memory herb and the fumigating herb at once. The 1,8-cineole chemotype is the sharp, camphorous one, which is the classic rosemary smell.
Try It With
Pair it with loose Rosemary and the Rosemary bundle.
