What It Is
Cupressus sempervirens, steam distilled from needles and twigs. The species name means evergreen, and the tree can live over a thousand years.

In the Craft
Cypress has been the tree of mourning across the Mediterranean since antiquity, planted in burial grounds precisely because it never loses its leaves. It is worked for grief, for transition, and for holding steady through a change you did not choose.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a candle for grief work or a memorial.
• Diffuse during a transition, a move, or after a loss.
• Dilute and wear when you need to hold still through something.
• Blend with myrrh and frankincense for threshold work.
