Throat Soothing Tea | Slippery Elm, Licorice & Mint Blend

Sweet, slippery and cooling, with mint over the top. Built for the days you have to talk for a living: teaching, reading, singing, holding a room.

What's In It

Peppermint, clearing, cool and sharp. Slippery Elm, soft and mucilaginous, giving the cup its characteristic slip. Licorice Root, authority and command, and a deep natural sweetness. Rosehips, heart-centered and tart, brightening the whole blend. Mullein, hag's taper, protection for the practitioner, soft and hay-like in the cup.

Spiritual Properties

Worked with before speaking, singing or any working that lives in the voice. A good cup to keep beside you while you teach.

To Brew

One tablespoon per cup. Pour water just off the boil and steep five to seven minutes, longer if you want it stronger. Strain and sweeten to taste.

Drink It With

There is no marshmallow in this blend, whatever the old label said. If you want more slip than the slippery elm gives you, marshmallow root loose is the herb to add. mullein on its own. Contains licorice root. Drunk daily for a couple of weeks it is enough to raise blood pressure and lower potassium in some people, so treat this as a cup for the days you need it rather than an all-day-every-day tea. Have a word with your doctor first if you are pregnant, take diuretics or heart medication, or are being treated for blood pressure, heart or kidney trouble.

Contains slippery elm, which coats as it goes down and can slow the absorption of anything else you swallow. Leave a couple of hours either side of your medication.
