Aventurine is quartz with something glittering suspended in it. In the green kind that something is fuchsite, a chromium bearing mica, and the shimmer it throws has a name of its own: aventurescence. The word arrived backward. Venetian glassmakers in the seventeenth century worked out how to suspend copper crystals through molten glass and called the result avventurina, from a ventura, meaning by chance, because the process was so difficult to control. The natural stone ended up named after the imitation.
It is the standard luck stone, and specifically the luck of things opening rather than the luck of things landing. Gamblers carried it. So did people starting over.
The heart association is the part people underrate. Aventurine gets worked for the nerve to take an opportunity, which is a different job from attracting one.
