Description
Ruby zoisite is a single rock holding two minerals that have no business being this beautiful together: opaque red ruby grown through vivid green zoisite, usually with black hornblende running between them. The trade name is anyolite. It comes from a handful of small mines in Tanzania and nowhere else on earth.

Zoisite is the same mineral species as tanzanite, which is the blue-violet variety from the same country. Ruby is corundum, the same species as sapphire. So this stone is two of the most recognizable gem minerals in the world, in their rough and unglamorous forms, fused by heat and pressure into something neither of them is alone.

That is exactly how it is worked. Ruby carries life force, nerve and appetite. Zoisite carries growth, patience and the heart. Together they are reached for when grief and vitality are tangled up in each other, which is most of the time. Practitioners use it for mourning that has gone on long enough, for getting an appetite for living back, and for gratitude that is not forced.
