Oregano Oil | Fierce Protection, Handle With Care

Hot, sharp and aggressively herbaceous. It smells like a pizza kitchen turned up far too loud, and it fills a room fast.

What It Is
Origanum vulgare, steam distilled from the leaf. Very high in carvacrol, a phenol, which is what makes it one of the most caustic essential oils in common circulation.

In the Craft
In Greek and Italian folk practice oregano is a protective and warding herb, hung in doorways and scattered at boundaries. Its heat puts it in the same family as clove and pepper: a driving-off herb rather than a shielding one.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a candle for hard protection or banishing work.
• Add a single drop to a warding blend.
• Use it where a working needs teeth in it.
• Diffuse very sparingly, and not in a small room.
