Patchouli Oil | Grounding, Attraction & Earth

Dark, damp and unmistakably of the earth, with a sweetness that comes out as it dries. People tend to have opinions about patchouli. It rewards the ones who like it.

What It Is
Pogostemon cablin, steam distilled from leaves that are fermented and dried first. Indonesian. Unusually for an essential oil, it improves with age rather than degrading.

In the Craft
Patchouli corresponds to Earth and to Saturn, and it is worked in two directions: anchoring, because nothing is heavier, and drawing, because it turns up in attraction and prosperity work across hoodoo and European folk practice alike.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a candle for money or attraction work.
• Dilute and wear when you need to feel rooted rather than floaty.
• Add a drop to a mojo bag or a written petition.
• Substitute it where a working calls for graveyard dirt and you would rather not.

Blends well with: vetiver, cedarwood, frankincense, bergamot, ylang ylang
