Description
Sodalite is a feldspathoid named for its sodium content, and it belongs to the same mineral group as the lazurite that makes lapis lazuli blue. The white streaks running through it are calcite. It was barely known outside mineral cabinets until 1892, when Frank Dawson Adams found a large deposit in Ontario; the Princess of Wales, later Queen Mary, saw it at the Buffalo world's fair in 1901 and liked it enough that a great deal of it went into Marlborough House, which is why the trade still calls that shade princess blue.
The correspondence is thinking, specifically the kind that has to become words. Sodalite is worked by writers, students, teachers, and anyone who has to explain something complicated to a person who is not going to make it easy.
