Description
The glow that floats under a moonstone's surface is called adularescence. It happens because the stone is built of alternating microscopic layers of two feldspars, orthoclase and albite, that separated out as the crystal cooled. Light scatters between the layers and comes back as that drifting sheen, and because it sits under the surface rather than on it, the shine seems to move as you turn the bead.

Moonstone became the lunar stone in Roman, Indian and Norse practice independently, which is the kind of convergence worth noticing.

It is worked for cycles: menstrual, lunar, seasonal, and the ordinary cycles of a life that keeps returning to the same questions in different years. Also for new beginnings, which is the same idea seen from the front.
