Description
Two raw aquamarine points on an adjustable electroplated gold band, points running roughly 9 to 15mm. Two points rather than one is the design decision: they sit at an angle to each other and the ring reads differently depending on which way your hand turns.
Aquamarine is beryl, the same mineral species as emerald, and the only difference between the two is which trace metal got into the structure. Iron makes it blue, chromium makes it green. Nearly all commercial aquamarine has been gently heated to drive off the yellow component, which is standard and has been for over a century.
The name is Latin for sea water and the association was never subtle. Romans carried it for safe passage. It gets worked now for calm while things are in motion, which is a different ask from calm while things are still.
How to Wear It
- Adjustable, so it fits without knowing a size and can move between fingers.
- Raw points catch on fabric. Worth knowing before you wear it with knitwear.
- Sun fades beryl over time. Keep it off a windowsill.
