Description

Imsety in antique gold, five inches, with a lid that lifts off.

Canopic jars held the organs taken out during embalming, and each of the four was a son of Horus with a goddess watching over him. Imsety is the human-headed one. He keeps the liver, Isis protects him, and he faces south.

The other three, if you are collecting the set: Hapi has a baboon head and keeps the lungs, Duamutef has a jackal head and keeps the stomach, Qebehsenuef has a falcon head and keeps the intestines. The heart stayed in the body, because it was needed for the weighing.

The lid comes off, which makes it a genuinely useful vessel: petitions, offerings, a small working you want closed rather than open.

Handmade in Egypt, so each one varies a little in paint and finish, and yours will not be identical to the photograph. Packaged in a decorative hieroglyphic box with an information card, which makes it a reasonable gift with no extra wrapping.
